The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Child Passenger Safety Week is held each September to educate parents about this important topic and to offer them tools and resources to help them make safer choices for their children when they travel.
This year’s Child Passenger Safety Week was held from September 16-22, 2012. One of the highlights of this observance is Seat Check Saturday. On this day, which was September 22, 2012, car seat inspection stations nationwide provided inspections and hands-on advice to parents and caregivers about selecting the right car seat for a child’s age and size.
A team of TMNcorp staff worked with NHTSA to develop Spanish-language resources that would reach Hispanic parents and encourage them to access resources available to them during Child Passenger Safety Week. These materials included:
- A series of three posters designed to promote Child Passenger Safety Week and related events to Spanish-speaking audiences.
- An instructional flyer highlighting NHTSA’s car seat recommendations based on a child’s age and size.
The TMN staff also reached out to Hispanic media outlets, bloggers and organizations serving the demographic to promote Child Passenger Safety Week and share resources that would encourage Hispanics parents to participate in this important event. The outreach materials were designed to be culturally-appropriate and featured several Spanish-language resources available to parents on NHTSA’s Child Passenger Safety Week website.
